Hungarian Society of Massachusetts

The Hungarian Society of Massachusetts is a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Hungarian language, culture, identity, and traditions in the Belmont, MA community and throughout New England. Founded in 1964, the Society provides comprehensive programming designed to connect individuals of Hungarian descent and those interested in Hungarian heritage with authentic cultural experiences. The organization offers educational programs and lectures that explore Hungarian history, language instruction, and cultural traditions. Members and the broader community benefit from a diverse calendar of celebrations and commemorative events, including observances of significant Hungarian national holidays such as the 1848 Revolution Commemoration on March 15th and the 1956 Revolution Commemoration on October 23rd. The Society hosts traditional Hungarian cultural events including the Hungarian Ball, Harvest Festival celebrations, and heritage day programs that bring the community together. Additional programming encompasses social gatherings, book clubs, hiking clubs, sports activities including a soccer club, and specialized groups such as the Hungarian Scouts, medical association, and science club. The Boskola Hungarian School provides language and cultural education for younger generations. All programming is organized with careful attention to maintaining the organization's commitment to remaining apolitical and welcoming to members regardless of their worldview, religion, or national origin.
